Steel Cutting of Second Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) for Indian Navy at cochin shipyard limited, Kochi

'Steel Cutting' ceremony of the second ship of the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) project was held at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi on September 17, 2026, with Rear Admiral Kapil Mehta, Assistant Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition as the Chief Guest. Other senior officials from the Indian Navy and CSL were also present for the occasion.

Contract for construction of NGMVs was concluded with CSL in March 2023. The NGMVs are planned to be installed with state-of-the-art weapon and sensors, which would significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Navy as a 'Future Ready and Combat Ready Force'. The construction of the ships reinforces India's commitment to build a strong and modern Navy, capable of operating in the complex maritime environment of the Indian Ocean Region.

Further, all the major role defining equipment have been indigenously developed and manufactured, underscoring the Nation's prowess and are in consonance with GoI initiative of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' 'Make in India' and 'Make for the World'.

The steel cutting of the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) was held at CSL, by Rear Admiral Kapil Mehta, NM, ACWP&A, Indian Navy, marking a significant milestone in the construction of this advanced naval platform. Dr Harikrishnan S, Director (Ops) graced the occasion and the representatives of Indian Navy & CSL were present at the function.
