The ships of the Indian Navy's First Training Squadron (1TS) – INS Tir, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sarathi – arrived at Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 26 2026. The ships were accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy in the presence of a naval band, marking the commencement of the port call. The visit provides an opportunity for professional interaction between the two navies and engagement with sea trainees undergoing training with the First Training Squadron.

On arrival, Director General of Naval Training, and Commander, Eastern Naval Area, Sri Lanka Navy, interacted with the sea trainees onboard the ships. The interaction provided an opportunity to engage with the trainees and exchange perspectives on professional naval training.

During the port call, personnel from both navies will undertake a range of professional and training engagements, including cross-training visits and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX). These activities will provide opportunities for personnel to exchange professional knowledge and gain exposure to each other's practices and procedures, while promoting mutual understanding and strengthening coordination between the two navies.

Community outreach activities and ship visits for the public will also be conducted during the port call. These engagements will provide opportunities for interaction with the local community and familiarisation with the Indian Navy's ships and training activities.

The port call reflects the enduring maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka and the continued commitment of both navies to professional engagement and cooperation. The visit also aligns with India's vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), emphasising mutual cooperation and collaborative efforts towards maritime security and regional prosperity.
