On Tuesday, September 10, the Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar and fleet replenishment tanker INS Aditya, will dock in Doha, Qatar on a four-day diplomatic goodwill visit.
The Indian Embassy in Doha says, "The visit is in the framework of “excellent relations and multi-faceted cooperation between India and Qatar”. The Indian Navy is looking to intensify relations with the Qatar Emiri Navy. Captain Venkat Raman and Captain Roopam Bembey, the two warship skippers will lead the visit. The port call is in fact a preamble to the Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) between India and Qatar on September 15 and 16. According to the Embassy, " JCDC was set up to implement the bilateral agreement on defence cooperation signed in Doha on November 9, 2008, during the visit of Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India to the State of Qatar. The two governments have agreed to renew this agreement for a further period of five years."
