“Government is committed to ‘Make in India’, but for critical projects and immediate requirements, we will import. The initial lot of naval utility helicopter (NUH) will be imported while ‘Make in India’ will get involved for the larger quantity and overall requirements. Government needs to sense the strategic requirements and is very clear that ‘Make in India’ is a long-term initiative. The technical parameters and a scientific approach with necessary R&D base need to be duly taken care of. I see a time frame of five years to establish the ‘Make in India’.”
— Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State, Defence, speaking to Jayant Baranwal, Editor-in-Chief, SP’s, at 2-day Naval Aviation Seminar 2015.
