Indian Coast Guard gets its Additional Director General on the west coast of India

In order to meet the evolving asymmetric maritime challenges and takeover envisaged responsibility of co-ordination of new matrix of coastal security mechanism, enhanced responsibility towards maritime search and rescue, pollution response and extensive surveillance of EEZ the Govt. of India has approved appointment of an officer of the rank of Additional Director General to head the complete operation of Indian Coast Guard in the vulnerable west coast.

Inspector General SPS Basra, YSM, PTM, TM has been promoted to the rank of Additional Director General on 04 Mar 2015 and has assumed the charge. The new appointment is in tandem with the Govt. endeavors for giving impetus to Indian Coast Guard operations.

The Additional Director General (West) will be overseeing the entire operations of Coast Guard Region West comprising of Maritime States of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and L&M group of Islands and Coast Guard Region North West comprising of Maritime States of Gujarat and Union Territory of Daman and Diu.
